Sensei Brett Singleton

Hi, I'm Sensei Brett Singleton. 10 Moves in based on over thirty years experience in the study and teaching of martial arts combined with the protective tactics I learned as a bodyguard doing executive protection.

My journey began at 13 when I began the study of White Crane Karate . At age 20 I began training in Wado-Ryu Karate under Shihan Dake Coker, .

After a few years of teaching I grew weary of the commercialism of most Martial Arts. I felt a yearning to see how martial arts should be implemented and taught to be used most effectively when real danger threatened.

I was influenced by the Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi and his pursuit of the Way.

In the early 90's, I was offered a position managing security for one of the most popular nightclubs in Charleston during this period and accepted the post because of the opportunities it provided to see real confrontations in live situations.

It was during this time that I met and became friends with a former Navy Seal, Mike Grace, who had moved into celebrity protection, this was to have a profound effect on my view of Martial Arts.

"Big Mike" Grace had grown up with Andrei Agassi and was roomates with him during the time Agassi was dating Brooke Shields. Brooke walked in one day, took one look at Mike and wanted to know if he could be her bodyguard at an upcoming event. From that he moved into providing protection for some of the most well known celebrities in the industry.

Working with and for Mike was to have a profound effect on the way I viewed martial arts training, because I learned to view things tactically, instead of how they were used inside a school.

Because of his life long exposure to police and high level security work, he possesed a great deal of tactical information about securing individuals and locations and the best methods for doing so.

Much of the tactical information I pass on to my students is a result of Mike's influence.

10 Moves is a mixture of martial arts learned from some of the best practitioners in the country mixed with tactical applications from some of the best security specialists in the world. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mike for his input and most of all to thank Shihan Dale Coker of Japan Karate Institute for his.
